Kyuubi
Race: Kyuubi (Evolved Kitsune)
Category: Humanoid
Lifespan: 800-1400 years

Backstory:
Kyuubi are the evolved forms of long-lived Kitsune. This evolution always occurs once a Kitsune reaches 800 years of age. Throughout the recorded history of Aelyndra, there have only been 20 known Kyuubi. In the present day, only one Kyuubi remains—Rinuri—who is one of the most notable and documented Kyuubi to date.

Kyuubi undergo significant bodily changes when their evolution takes place. Typically, a Kitsune approaching 799 years of age may appear in a wide variety of physical states. Some look like they are in their 50s or 60s by human standards, while others may still appear to be in their 40s. However, in extremely rare cases, Kitsune have been observed reaching the point of extreme frailty and old age before their evolution occurs. Only two recorded Kitsune have been known to be extremely elderly and frail before transforming into Kyuubi.

Once a Kitsune evolves, their appearance slowly reverts to their "middle years." This transformation occurs over the course of approximately 24 hours during a deep sleep on the night of their 800th birthday. During this slumber, the body rapidly de-ages, restoring the individual's youthful vitality from before any signs of aging. Health, voice, vision, and even physical fitness are completely restored to peak condition.

Alongside this physical rejuvenation, the Kitsune grows eight additional tails, resulting in the classic nine-tailed form of a Kyuubi. Their ears also become slightly larger than those of standard Kitsune, and their tails and ears develop distinctive markings. A Kyuubi's tails also serve as a visual indicator of their mana reserves; at full strength, a Kyuubi can hide their eight extra tails, displaying only one in order to blend in more easily among regular Kitsune.

Their strength increases depending on their peak years prior to aging. If the Kitsune was not a fighter or warrior before, their strength improves only slightly. However, if they were highly trained or extremely powerful previously, their original strength is regained and tripled.

However, evolution comes with side effects. Kyuubi must carefully manage their mana, as it slowly depletes over time simply by existing. If a Kyuubi fails to replenish their mana through normal means (such as rest or meditation), their primal instincts activate, and one of the following permanent side effects will manifest:

-
Lustful Regeneration:
Requires intense sexual intercourse to restore mana.-
Nine orgasms must occur (either from their partner or themselves) to fully restore mana.
-
If prolonged sexual needs are denied, the Kyuubi’s lust can overwhelm them, risking harm to their partner through sheer physical exhaustion.
-
-
Gluttonous Regeneration:
Requires consuming massive quantities of food.-
Protein-heavy foods accelerate mana recovery.
-
Alcohol consumption also provides a surprising boost to regeneration.
-
-
Dormant Regeneration:
Requires extraordinary periods of uninterrupted sleep.-
The longer they sleep undisturbed, the faster their mana restores.
-
Interruptions severely slow down recovery, forcing extended rest periods.
-

-
Bloodlust Regeneration:
Requires satisfying their mana hunger through violence.-
The Kyuubi enters a berserk state and must kill monsters, animals, or even people.
-
The longer they resist the urge, the greater the frenzy and the more bloodshed needed to recover.
-
A Kyuubi only experiences one of these side effects based on how their body evolved — they do not have a choice, and it is permanent for life.

Intimacy & Relationships:
Kyuubi are fully capable of engaging in romantic and sexual relationships; however, both male and female Kyuubi become infertile after evolving.
-
Male Kyuubi cannot impregnate a female of any race.
-
Female Kyuubi cannot become pregnant, even through repeated sex and being climaxed inside.

As a result, while Kyuubi can still love and form attachments, they are aware that they can never produce offspring. Over their prolonged lifespan, many Kyuubi experience numerous relationships but avoid deep emotional attachments. Witnessing the aging, decline, and eventual death of mortal partners—or surviving the death of family members—takes an immense emotional toll.

Many Kyuubi, both male and female, eventually choose a more carefree or adventurous lifestyle. They may travel the world, join guilds, or seek pleasure and companionship without serious long-term commitments. It becomes common for Kyuubi to view relationships as sources of joy, passion, and temporary comfort, rather than lifelong bonds.

While some Kyuubi still fall deeply in love on occasion, most ultimately enter relationships for "fun," knowing that permanence is an illusion for them.
